«Corvo»
Guarulhos sits hard against São Paulo, a city of its own. Its amateur pitches produced a club in 1954, and the person who founded it was Guiomar Pereira Xavier, a woman who had come from Rio de Janeiro. The red and black she chose came with the name.
For most of its life the club was not professional at all, and its best years were played out in front of neighbours. Between 1969 and 1975 it won the municipal championship seven times running, which is where O Campeão da Cidade comes from — the city champion, in the literal sense that nobody in Guarulhos beat them for the better part of a decade.
A first attempt at professional football in 1979 failed. The second, from 1998, worked: the Segunda Divisão in 1999, Série A4 the following year, then a longer wait until the Série A3 title in 2008 took them into Série A2 for the first time. They reached the final phase there in 2009 and went straight back down in 2010.
The ground holds 6,235 and is called the Ninho do Corvo, the Raven's Nest, after the nickname the supporters use for the team. It fills for the Derby Guarulhense against Associação Desportiva Guarulhos.
Since 2025 the club has been back in the Segunda Divisão.
