Heart of Midlothian

Edinburgh divides its football loyalty along Gorgie and Leith lines, and Tynecastle Park sits on the Gorgie side, the home Heart of Midlothian has held since the ground took its name. The club dates to 1874, one of the older sides in Scottish football, and Hearts against Hibernian is played as the Edinburgh derby, the fixture that still sets the city's football calendar.

Supporters go by Jambos, a name built on rhyming slang — Jam Tarts for Hearts — and the maroon shirt has stayed the club's identifying colour throughout. Tynecastle itself was rebuilt in stages, and the main stand's 2017 reconstruction brought capacity to 19,852.

Hearts have taken the Scottish Cup eight times, most recently in 2012, and the league championship four times, the last in 1960. The League Cup was won four times in a run through the 1950s and early 1960s.

2013 tested the club in a different way. Hearts went into administration, took a 15-point deduction, and dropped out of the top flight. The Foundation of Hearts, a supporters' trust, took ownership from 2014, and the club climbed back to the Premiership that same year. A second relegation followed in 2020, reversed again in 2021 when Hearts returned to the top division, where they have stayed since.
