Home Stars

Ho Sports Stadium holds close to 5,000 people, a modest ground in the regional capital that has needed repair more than once; early in 2026 it closed for maintenance and Home Stars shifted their fixtures to Hohoe.

The club took shape in 2000 under Joe Justus Ayivor, head of the Home Group of Companies, who has run it since as patron and owner. Locally they are known as the Soccer Apostles.

Promotion came in 2023, and it came the hard way: level at 1-1 with Inter Allies in the Volta Division Two Middle League decider, Home Stars won 4-2 on penalties to go up to Division One, two years after losing a similar shootout to Akatsi All Stars and finishing as runners-up in the same competition. Ayivor marked the promotion by tearing up the playing squad and coaching staff, saying he wanted a side capable of reaching the Premier League within two seasons; the club kept competing through the rebuild that followed.

The MTN FA Cup gave them their biggest moment since: a 1-0 win over Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities in the 2024/25 Round of 64, undone in the next round by a 3-0 defeat to Accra Hearts of Oak. Hohoe United remain the fixture that matters most, the Volta Regional derby, now played with Home Stars borrowing the ground of the team on the other side of it.
