Okwawu

The one Ghana FA Cup that sits in the trophy case at Nkawkaw came in 1994, when Okwawu United beat Mysterious Dwarfs 2–1 in the final.

The club did not start under this name. It began in 1973 as Young Africans, and when money ran short the side was rebuilt and registered as Kwahu United on 15 June 1975 with the blessing of the Eastern Regional Sports Organizer. Okwawu United became the name in 1981, the same year the club reached the top flight for the first time.

The Kwahu highlands gave the club its nickname, Soccer Mountaineers, and its identity is tied to the town of Nkawkaw in a way few Ghanaian clubs can claim about their home derby.

Cecil Jones Attuquayefio coached the side through the late 1980s, the years that produced the 1986 FA Cup run and the Champion of Champions title.

Relegation from the Ghana Premier League followed a penalty shootout defeat to All Blacks after the 2005/06 season, and a second drop, in 2017, sent the club down to the third tier. Six years later, Okwawu United beat Pelican FC 3–1 to win the Eastern Region Division Two Middle League and returned to the Division One League.
