Zone Three of the Access Bank Division One League is where True Democracy sit this season, a rung the club reached only after winning the Greater Accra Division Two Middle League in 2023–24 and beating Danbort FC 1–0 in the promotion final. Staying up looks the more pressing task now, with results in the zone tight enough to keep the Tema side glancing at the table more than the trophy cabinet.

The club is tied to the Abrankese area of Tema, though it has no ground of its own to speak of: home fixtures have gone to the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema New Town, a venue shared rather than owned, and the bigger occasions have taken the team down the road to the Accra Sports Stadium. That was the case in this season's MTN FA Cup, where True Democracy pushed into the quarter-finals before Asante Kotoko ended the run 2–1; Isaac Botchway pulled the score level in the 62nd minute, only for Kwame Opoku to settle it for Kotoko deep into stoppage time.

Soccerway dates the club back to 1984, though little from the decades between that founding and the recent promotion has surfaced. What is clear is the coaching line that produced the Division Two title under Emmanuel Aidoo, credited with delivering that lower-tier championship before the current side carried the club up a level.

None of it, though, has generated the heat of the fixture with Port City FC. The two Zone Three sides have a rivalry that has spilled past the touchline: in January 2025, police shut down the Kukurantumi Ohene Park after opposing fans pelted each other with stones, and a year later the Ghana Football Association's Disciplinary Committee fined True Democracy 30,000 cedis and issued a strong warning over supporter conduct in another meeting with Port City. Whatever separates them competitively, the history between them adds an edge no other fixture on the calendar carries.
