Great Olympics

Richard Kingson put on the Wonder Club shirt in 1995, years before Blackpool and the Black Stars knew his name, and that pattern has held ever since: Accra Great Olympics finds players, then watches them leave for bigger wages elsewhere. Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu arrived in 2022.

The club split from Accra Standfast in April 1954, a group of members in the Sakumo Tsoshie suburb unhappy with how the older club was run. Supporters still call it Oly Dade.

Its best European run came in 1971, a semi-final in the African Cup of Champions Clubs, ended there by Asante Kotoko, but no Ghanaian club had reached that stage before. Two league titles followed at home, in 1969–70 and 1973–74, along with FA Cup wins spread across 1975, 1983 and 1995.

Since then the club has struggled to hold a fixed address as much as a fixed division. It shares the Accra Sports Stadium with Hearts of Oak and the national team, the fixture list against Hearts known as the Ga Mashie Derby, named for the chieftaincy areas each side represents. For 2025–26, in the second tier, home matches move to McDan La Town Park in Teshie.

Between those two relegations, in 2013–14 and 2015–16, the club went back up.
