Internacional SC

In 2000, Internacional de Lages lifted the Campeonato Catarinense Série B under the name SER Internacional, a body set up by a group of former directors who kept the club alive by other means and are still credited today as part of its history — a detail that says more about the club's fragility than any trophy it has collected.

The club was put together on 13 June 1949 by twelve young men in Lages, in the mountains of Santa Catarina, and it has spent most of the decades since chasing the level it reached only once: the state championship of 1965, its lone appearance among the elite of Catarinense football. Everything else in the cabinet belongs to the lower rungs — Série B titles in 1990, 2000 and 2014, a Série C crown in 2013, a runner-up finish in the Copa Santa Catarina in 1992.

Home is the Estádio Vidal Ramos Júnior, known locally as Tio Vida, holding 9,600. The club plays in red and white, and among the region it is known as Colorado Lageano, a nod that separates it plainly enough from the far larger Sport Club Internacional of Porto Alegre, whose name and colours it shares without sharing its stature.

The gap between the two Internacionals is the club's whole story in miniature: one built an identity strong enough to be copied, the other has spent 1965 onward trying to get back to a first division it touched only that single year, currently playing out its competitive life in the Catarinense Série C.
