Kingborough Lions

Taroona are the fixture that matters most in Kingston, a southern Hobart neighbour in the men's NPL Tasmania and the Women's Super League. No one has given the meeting a name, and the clubs have not needed one.

The Lions arrived at that rivalry by way of a long series of mergers. Caledonian SC, founded in 1956, gave up its name in 1994 when Soccer Australia outlawed ethnic-based club names, becoming West Hobart Lions. Kingston Cannons and Rapid Hobart combined as Kingborough United. The two survivors merged in 1998, and the honours boards of all of them came along: thirteen Tasmanian State Championships in the lineage, of which only the 1999 title was won under the current name. The Lakoseljac Cup came back to Kingston in 2026.

Lightwood Park reopened in June 2025 after a $6.53 million rebuild, with an 830-seat grandstand and room for about 3,000 once the standing areas fill. Black and blue stripes, as they have always been.

The name spoken most often at the ground is Zoe Nolan, who was playing for the senior women's side at 13 and went on to a Matildas cap. Her shirt hangs at the club permanently and the best-and-fairest medal carries her name. Three more — the Bonertz-Benn sisters and Eloise Paine — went through the Junior Matildas squad in 2022 and left for pathways on the mainland.
