Glenorchy Knights

Milan Lakoseljac scored for the Glenorchy club through the 1970s and into the 1980s, finished as leading marksman more than once and played for Tasmania. He died in 1999, and the state cup now carries his name. They had won it in 2000, 2005, 2012 and 2020 as well.

The club began among Hobart's Croatian community as Croatia-Hobart in 1956, and joined the Tasmanian Soccer Association the following year; 1957 is the date it counts from. Rudi Hancl, one of the founders, played in that first season and drew the first badge. The name went in 1997, when Tasmanian soccer barred ethnic titles from club names, and Croatia-Glenorchy became Glenorchy Knights.

Eight league titles have come since 1963, but they arrive in clusters rather than a steady drip: three in the mid-1960s and 1970s, then 1992, then a thirteen-year wait to 2005 and a sixteen-year one to 2021. The 2024 season brought the league and the cup together.

Matches with Olympia Warriors and Clarence Zebras are the ones that draw a crowd; there is no agreed name for any of it.

Home is KGV Park in Glenorchy, a suburb on the northern side of Hobart, with room for around 2,000. Red and white on the terraces.
