By the time Mamelodi Sundowns Women went through the 2021 CAF Women's Champions League without conceding a goal, the vice-captain's clean sheets had become the clearest measure of what the club had built. Patrice Motsepe set the project up in Pretoria in 2009, folding a women's side into the Sundowns operation he already ran on the men's side, and for a decade it worked its way up from the amateur Sasol League before the SAFA National Women's League turned professional in 2019. The climb since has left little room for anyone else at the top of the domestic game: eight league titles, the most recent run stretching from 2021 straight through to 2025 without interruption. Continentally, the record carries more weight. Two Champions League wins, in 2021 against Hasaacas Ladies and in 2023 against SC Casablanca, were both delivered without the team losing a single match or letting in a single goal along the way. The exception sits in between them: the 2022 final against AS FAR, lost 4–0 after the team was reduced to nine players, a result still remembered in Pretoria as the one continental night that got away. Jerry Tshabalala coached the side from 2013 to 2024, the eleven years in which most of that record was built, working out of the Chloorkop training base before matches moved to Lucas Moripe Stadium, a 28,900-capacity ground the team shares in colour if not in venue with the men's side — the same yellow and green kit, the same badge. Rhoda Mulaudzi, one of the club's most prolific forwards, has stayed on afterwards as an academy coach. Against Supersport United, the Tshwane Derby, and in the wider run of the Champions League beyond those two finals, a second continental title to sit alongside 2021 and 2023 is still what the club is chasing.
