Meteor Praha

Meteor Praha sit second in the 4. liga – Divize B this season.

The path there ran through the lower reaches of Prague football: the I. A třída, won in 2004/05, the Pražský přebor in 2007/08, and the 4. liga – Divize B itself in 2012/13.

The first came decades earlier, when they took part in the inaugural season of the Czechoslovak top flight in 1925, then called the Asociační liga, and finished 10th of 12. Karel Žďárský, on the books between 1924 and 1926, played through that campaign before Meteor dropped back down a year later.

Meteor returned to the top division only once more, in 1974/75 as TJ Meteor Praha, finishing 18th. By then the club had been renamed under state direction several times over — Sokol České Loděnice in 1948, DSO Spartak Loděnice in 1953, TJ Libeň Loděnice in 1957 — before the Meteor name came back in 1966. Jozef Jarabinský, Olympic champion in 1968, played for the club in 1973 and 1974.

Meteor have played at the Sportovní areál Libeň, on U Meteoru street in Prague's eighth district, since 1934; it holds around 3,000, with some 400 of those seated. The club goes back further still, to 2 March 1896, when it was founded as Sportovní kroužek Kotva. It became SK Meteor Libeň in 1899, then SK Meteor Praha VIII in 1901 — the identity it kept until the football section broke away as its own club in 1994, under the name it plays under now.
