Sokol Zápy

The trophy case at Zápy holds one entry that mattered: in 2010/11, playing under the name SK Zápy, the club won the Přebor Středočeského kraje and the Středočeský fotbalový pohár in the same season. The prize was promotion to Divize, the fourth tier.

That season capped a decade-long climb out of trouble. The club, founded in 1932 and known for much of its life as TJ Sokol Zápy, had slid into crisis at the end of the 1990s and dropped as far as the district league in 1999. From 2002 it worked its way back up one division at a time, and by 2006/07 it had reached the regional Přebor. In 2010 it dropped the Sokol name and returned to its original title, SK Zápy, just before the double arrived.

One promotion followed another. After a single season in Divize, the club went up again in 2012, this time into the Českou fotbalovou ligu, the third tier. It stayed competitive there rather than sliding back down: second place in 2015/16 should have meant a further promotion to the Fotbalovou národní ligu, but the Czech Football Association withheld the licence required to play at that level. Zápy remained in the ČFL and kept finishing near the top, taking second place again in 2017/18, 2018/19, an unfinished 2019/20 season cut short by the pandemic, and 2023/24.

The club's best-known graduate, Petr Lukáš, passed through its youth section between 1985 and 1988 before building a career as a defender at Sparta Praha, Slovan Liberec and Teplice, winning a Czech league title and a Czech Cup along the way.

Zápy continues to play its home games at Stadion TJ Sokol Zápy.
