New Jersey Copa Women

The furthest New Jersey Copa Women have gone is a final they lost. In 2016, the club reached the United Women's Soccer national championship match and fell 1-2 to Santa Clarita Blue Heat — a defeat that remains the closest the team has come to a major trophy.

Copa were founded in 2015, an offshoot of FC Copa Academy, the youth programme Roberto Aguas had built in New Jersey since 2004. The club is based in Hillsborough, though its matches are staged some distance away, at St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, a ground that holds 1,000.

Players have moved on from Copa into wider ranks. Sydney Cummings went into NWSL and USL Super League football with Guyana on her international record, Christina Freda has played for Cyprus, and Jenny Bitzer joined Hoffenheim's reserve side. Fenetia Brown, the first professional footballer to come out of St Kitts and Nevis, returned to coach at the club that produced her.

Since that 2016 final, silverware has not followed, and Copa have missed the playoffs each season since: eighth in the UWS standings in 2024, fifth in the Metropolitan division of the USL W League in 2025. The team plays in red, black and white.

Copa have no fixed historic rival, but in the women's game the tri-state area draws two names into any conversation about opposition: Long Island Rough Riders and New York Magic.
