North Macedonia

The team took shape in the mid-2000s, when the Football Federation of Macedonia put out a women's side under the FIFA code MKD, decades after the federation itself had first formed in 1926 and been rebuilt in 1949. The first match came on 7 May 2005, away to Croatia in Đakovo, and ended 4-0 to the hosts.

Home games are played at the Toše Proeski Arena in Skopje, a ground that started out in 1947 as the old Gradski Stadium before a rebuild between 2009 and 2013 turned it into a 33,011-seat venue. The side wears red at home, white away and black as a third colour, taken from the national flag, and carries the nickname Црвени лавици — the Red Lionesses.

Violeta Spirovska remains the most capped player in the team's history, 72 appearances built up after a debut against Slovakia in September 2009. Gentjana Rochi has scored more than anyone else to wear the shirt, 22 goals across Nations League and European Championship qualifying campaigns. The armband now sits with Nataša Andonova, who plays her club football for Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia and has taken 14 goals from 33 caps into the job.

On the touchline, Kiril Izov's spell ran longer than any other, from 2016 to 2024, before Aleksandar Andov took over. The closest thing to a fixed rivalry is with Bulgaria, framed locally as a neighbourly derby; the most recent meeting, in September 2023 in Sofia, went the Bulgarians' way 1-0 in the Nations League. Matches against Kosovo, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia have filled out the rest of the calendar.
