Panama U19

The Estadio Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez in Panama City holds 23,000 people now, all seated, after work finished on it in 2023–2024; earlier the ground was listed at 45,000 and even 29,000, figures that belong to an older version of the stadium. It is here that Panama's under-19 side trains and plays, wearing the same crest the senior team carries — a harpy eagle redrawn in May 2024 — and answering to the same nicknames, Los Canaleros and La Marea Roja.

The side is run under the Federación Panameña de Fútbol, founded in 1937, and for regional competition it is fielded as the under-20 team, so the U-19 age group and the U-20 shirt are, in practice, the same squad. Panama's first international at this level went badly: a 7–1 defeat to Brazil in Caracas in 1954. The tournament record built since then reads better. In the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, Panama went through the group stage unbeaten and reached the final, where Mexico held them to 1–1 before winning 4–2 on penalties. Costa Rica supplies the other fixture that matters most, a Central American derby the squad treats as a rivalry in its own right.

Panama has gone to the FIFA U-20 World Cup seven times, in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2025, and the Round of 16 reached in 2019 remains the deepest run there. Regionally, the UNCAF U-19 Tournament has twice ended in second place, in 2018 and again in 2024.

In September, the team plays in the CONMEBOL South American Games' Men's U19 event, drawn into Group A against Chile, Colombia and Peru.
