San Pablo Burgos

San Pablo Burgos became the first club to win the Basketball Champions League twice in a row. In 2019–20 the team under Joan Peñarroya beat AEK Athens in the final, with Thad McFadden named Final Four MVP. A year later it beat Pinar Karsiyaka, and Vitor Benite took the MVP award. The 2021 win was followed by the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, which the club won that year and then lost in the 2022 final.

The club had been around for barely five years when the first title arrived. Its professional side was set up in August 2015, after Tizona, the city's established team, turned down promotion to the ACB, the top division. Burgos was left without a club at that level, and a new one was admitted to the second division, LEB Oro, on 28 August. It grew out of CB Miraflores, a club founded in 1994 that had spent two decades in local leagues. Two years later, in 2017, San Pablo won the LEB Oro playoffs and went up to the ACB.

In the ACB the best result came in 2019–20, when the team reached the playoff semi-finals. The Copa del Rey stopped at the quarter-finals in 2021, where Tenerife knocked the team out. In 2022 the club finished bottom with a 10–24 record and went down. After the last game, president Félix Sancho had the players kneel and apologise to the fans, and the scene drew criticism.

The way back took three seasons. In 2024–25 San Pablo won Primera FEB under Bruno Savignani and returned to the ACB automatically. The Derbi Burgalés with Tizona, now Grupo Ureta Tizona Burgos, was played in the same division for the first time in that stretch. The club plays at the Coliseum, which seats 9,604 for basketball.
