Gipuzkoa

In 2011–12, Andy Panko was named ACB MVP and picked in the All-ACB First Team. The club that season, coached by Sito Alonso, finished 5th, reached the Copa del Rey quarter-finals and played in the ACB playoffs. It remains the best season Gipuzkoa Basket has had in the top flight.

The club had started ten years earlier for a practical reason. Basketball in the province had lost its historic name, Askatuak, and Miguel Santos and a group of local businessmen wanted a professional team back. The first attempt, in the third tier under the name Datac GBC, stalled in 2002 over money. When the club returned in 2004, it bought the place of CB Ciudad de Algeciras in the second division, LEB Oro.

Porfirio Fisac, the founding coach, took it up quickly. In 2006 the team beat Polaris Murcia 7–0 in the playoff series and won promotion. To meet ACB requirements, it moved that year into Illumbe, the bullring, now Donostia Arena, which holds 11,000. Before that, and in later spells in the second division, it played in the José Antonio Gasca sports hall, which holds about 3,000. Pablo Laso took the side up again in 2008.

The name on the shirt changed with each sponsor: Bruesa, Lagun Aro, RETAbet.es, Delteco, Acunsa. Two more LEB Oro titles came, in 2017 and 2020. The 2020 title was shared because the pandemic cancelled the season. In 2024 the club merged with Askatuak SBT and took the name Askatuak Gipuzkoa, so the old name it was founded to replace is back on the shirt.

The player with the most ACB appearances for the club is David Doblas.
