When Real Betis Baloncesto, the club that had begun as Caja San Fernando and later carried the Cajasol name, collapsed administratively, Seville was left without a basketball team of its own at the top of the regional game. The club had failed to meet the requirements for promotion to the ACB. Two brothers, Gonzalo and Sergio Crespo Gil, and Marcos Domínguez decided that the city should not go without.

They presented Caja 87 in July 2024. The name points back to 1987, the year Caja San Fernando was founded.

The first season was in the third tier, Segunda FEB, at the Pabellón San Pablo, with a basketball capacity of 7,626. In September 2025 an agreement with Fundación Cajasol changed the name again, to Cajasol87, so the old savings-bank name was back on the shirt within a year of the club's creation.

The second season was the one that mattered. Under Adrià Alonso the team won the Western Group of Segunda FEB, then beat CB Sant Antoni in the promotion playoffs in May 2026 to reach Primera FEB. The club had needed two seasons to go up. The rivalries came with the climb: CB Morón in the Sevillian derby, and Coto Córdoba when the meeting is an Andalusian one.

Juani Díez takes over as head coach for 2026-2027, the club's first year in the second tier. The players who carried the promotion include Garvin Clarke and Walter Cabral, and the club is again playing in Seville at a level the Caja name had held before the collapse.
