Córdoba had no professional basketball for twelve years. Cajasur Córdoba was dissolved in 2010, and the city's top-level side went with it. What remained were amateur teams, and in June 2022 two of them, Virgen del Carmen and Ciudad de Córdoba, merged.

The nickname, Los Califas, points at the city's past as the capital of the Caliphate. The new club started at the fifth tier, in the 1ª División Nacional, and was in Liga EBA a year later. That 2023–24 season ended with second place in the regular season and a win in the promotion playoffs, which took the side into Segunda FEB (formerly LEB Plata).

The first year at that level was about staying up, and Córdoba did. The second was different. In 2025–26 they won the Western Group, then beat Amics del Bàsquet Castelló in the Play-off of Champions to be crowned Segunda FEB champions. The result sends them to Primera FEB, the second tier, for 2026–27. No Córdoba team had reached the second division on sporting merit since 1995.

Guillermo Del Pino came through the academy and played for the club in 2024–25. He then went to the University of Maryland, having represented Spain at the U18 Eurobasket. Antonio Bioque, a guard, returned in 2023 from CB Morón. Gonzalo Rodríguez Palmeiro was head coach for the promotion season, and the shirts are green and white.

Home games are played at the Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Vista Alegre, which holds 3,500. That is where Córdoba will host second-tier basketball again.
