Cáceres Ciudad del Baloncesto plays in LEB Oro, the second tier of Spanish basketball. The club has reached that level twice by different routes: in 2008 through a vacant berth, and in 2015 by winning LEB Plata, when it took the regular-season title and went back up.

The club exists because its predecessor did not survive. Cáceres Club Baloncesto, formed in 1961, spent 11 seasons in the Liga ACB, from 1992 to 2003. Its best finish was fifth in 1993–94. It lost the Copa del Rey final in 1997 and took the same run into Europe, reaching the semi-finals of the Korać Cup in 1995. Financial problems dissolved it in 2005. Two years later San Antonio Ciudad de Cáceres and a second local side merged to give the city a team again. Since then the Copa Extremadura, the regional cup, has gone to the club in 2008 and 2011.

Its nickname, Los Verdinegros, comes from the black and green colours. For sponsorship reasons it also plays under the name Cáceres Patrimonio de la Humanidad, which carries the city's World Heritage status onto the shirt.

Home games are held in the Pabellón Multiusos "Ciudad de Cáceres" on Avenida Pierre de Coubertin, which holds 6,500. That is a large hall for a second-division side.
