Leyma Coruña

Lugo is the opponent that matters to Leyma Coruña. Games against Club Baloncesto Breogán are sold as the Derbi Galego, and in A Coruña they also go by the Derbi do Pazo, a name from the years when the club played at the Pazo dos Deportes de Riazor, a hall of 4,425 seats.

The club itself was built out of a collapse. CAB Coruña folded in June 1996 after relegation and money trouble, and the city was left without a representative. Within the same month, Clube Baloncesto Arteixo and Agrupación Deportiva Ventorrillo merged to fill the gap. The new side wore yellow as Sondeos del Norte, and that colour survives on the black away kit.

The early years were unsteady. In 2002 the club sold its LEB place to entrepreneurs who founded Basket Zaragoza 2002, and it dropped to the EBA league. In 2004 a financial crisis forced a temporary withdrawal from competition and a fall to regional level. It recovered in 2005. Leyma, the dairy company, became main sponsor in 2008, and the club became a Sociedad Anónima Deportiva (SAD) in October 2018 to meet the professional requirements for a step up.

That step came in 2024. Under Diego Epifanio, Leyma reached the Liga ACB, the top flight the city had been without for 56 years. In the debut season Yunio Barrueta was named FEB Player of the Month for December 2024. The same season brought a Copa Princesa final, lost to Estudiantes. In 2026 the club won the Copa Galicia for the first time since 1996 and took the II San Roque Trophy.

The ACB's facility rules pushed the club out of Riazor and into the Coliseum Auditorium, which holds around 11,000. Los Naranjas now play in orange, and the kit designs carry the María Pita statue and the Marina galleries.
