A basketball club under the Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa badge existed once before, in the years when Baloncesto León still played in the Liga ACB. Felipe Llamazares, a former ACB referee, brought together two local sides, CB Reino de León and Basket León, and registered the new section on 22 June 2022 under the football club's name and colours.

The colours came with the merger rather than being chosen fresh: white with red side stripes at home, red with white stripes away, the same scheme the football side wears. The nicknames followed too — La Cultu and La Leonesa, shared across both sections of the club.

On the floor, the new side wasted no time. In its first season it won the Copa Castilla y León EBA, beating Filipenses 83-73 in the final. Two years later it went through the A-B group of Liga EBA at 27-3, took the group title and earned promotion to Segunda FEB, the third tier of Spanish basketball, with the promotion confirmed in May 2024.

They now play their home games at the Palacio de los Deportes de León, in front of a capacity of 5,188.
