The Spanish Basketball Academy (SBA) now plays in the Segunda FEB, the third tier of Spanish basketball. The league is run by the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) and was formerly called LEB Plata. The club joined it in 2025-26. Before that its name was made in youth basketball, not in national competition.

It began as a company. It was registered as a limited company (Sociedad Limitada) on 14 August 2017, and its commercial activity is dated from 28 July that year. Home games are played at the municipal Pabellón de Los Cantones.

The clearest marker from the years before the national league is the 2020-21 season. SBA's Junior team reached the semi-finals of the Junior Especial Masculino in the Madrid regional league. It beat Distrito Olímpico in the quarter-finals, then lost to Zentro Basket Madrid with a place in the final at stake. That was a youth result, but it came in the club's fourth year, when the academy was still building its pathway.

The best-known name attached to the academy is Pat Connaughton, an NBA champion in 2021. He appears in the testimonials on the academy's website.
