Gandia's basketball went quiet in 2013. Gandia Bàsquet Atlètic, the team the city had assembled in 1993 by merging Nou Bàsquet Gandia and Club Baloncesto Gandia, closed because of financial problems. It had reached LEB Oro, the Spanish second division, in 2006 and stayed for three seasons, until 2008–09. Zach Morley played for it from 2005 to 2009, in LEB-2 and then LEB Oro.

Units Pel Bàsquet Gandia, known as UPB Gandia, was registered in that same year of 2013. By 2016–17 it was playing in LEB Plata.

The next honours came at a lower level. UPB won the Lliga Valenciana EBA in 2021, beating CB Alginet 69–54, and won it again in 2022. Promotion back to LEB Plata followed in 2024.

It is billed as the "derbi valencià", or the "derbi entre debutants".
