Keven Gomes, a Cape Verde international, signed for Benicarló in 2022. He came in alongside Nikola Žižić, a Montenegrin centre who stayed for the 2022-23 season. Both arrived at a club that only a few years earlier had been playing well below that level.

The climb began in 2016-17, when Benicarló won the Senior Autonómico promotion phase. In 2018-19 they came second in Liga EBA Group E, which took them up to LEB Plata. The club had been at it far longer: it started in 1969 as Club Baloncesto OJE, the first basketball team the town had.

The team has carried a sponsor's name for most of the last two decades: Construcciones Mallons from 2008 to 2011, Mi Arquitecto from 2020 to 2022. Amics Castelló, formerly TAU Castelló, are the opponents in the Derbi Provincial.

LEB Plata is now called Segunda FEB, and it is where Benicarló play, on the third tier of Spanish basketball.
