Unicaja Malaga

Unicaja compete in Spain's ACB League, and the last three years have been the strongest run in their history. They won the Basketball Champions League in 2023–24 and again in 2024–25. Between those two, they took the Copa del Rey in 2025, their third. The FIBA Intercontinental Cup came in 2023 and 2024, which puts a Málaga team at the head of the world club game.

The club is younger than its reputation. It began in 1977 as Sociedad Deportiva Caja de Ronda, a team tied to a local savings bank. In 1992 it merged with CB Maristas de Málaga, a side that dated back to 1953 as Ademar Basket Club, and the merged club took the name of the bank's successor, Unicaja. That is where the nickname Los Cajistas comes from: the "cajas" are the savings banks.

Berni Rodríguez is the figure supporters mention first. His number 5 shirt was retired in 2012, and his brother Nacho also played for the club. The team around the 2005–06 league title was built on Jorge Garbajosa, Marcus Brown, Michael Ansley and Louis Bullock, with Carlos Cabezas, a product of the club's own academy, running it.

The academy has kept producing. Álex Abrines came through it, and Domantas Sabonis spent 2013–14 with the first team before moving to the NBA. More recent names include Willy Hernangómez and Kyle Wiltjer.

Home games are at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena, which holds 10,699 for ACB matches. The Derby Andaluz against Real Betis Baloncesto is the fixture that carries the most local weight, though the visits of Covirán Granada matter almost as much across Andalusia.

The ACB title has come once, in 2005–06.
