Basquet Girona

On 19 June 2022, Girona beat Movistar Estudiantes 66-60 in the final of the LEB Oro Playoffs. The win took the club into the Liga ACB for the first time.

The route up was slow and ran through the lower divisions. The club took the name Bàsquet Girona in 2017, when it entered a senior men's team in the fourth-tier Liga EBA. In 2019-20 it finished as runner-up in the LEB Plata regular season. It also reached the final of the Copa LEB Plata that season, where it lost 74-67 to Juaristi ISB. Two years later it was in the ACB.

Girona had been in the top flight before, under a different club. Club Bàsquet Sant Josep Girona, founded in 1962, played in the ACB until 2008 and won the EuroCup in 2007. It then dissolved because of bankruptcy and was re-founded in the lower divisions as Club Bàsquet Sant Josep. The present club has no legal link to it, so the city's return to the ACB is the work of a separate organisation. Its players since have included Khem Birch, John Jenkins and Yves Pons.

The nearest rival is BAXI Manresa. Joventut de Badalona are a hard regional opponent, and in the Lliga Catalana the opposition is FC Barcelona.

Home games are played at Fontajau, which holds about 5,200 for basketball. Retractable stands installed in recent renovations added 400 seats. The hall is also the home of Girona's women's side, Uni Girona, whom the club integrated in 2025.
