Basket Zaragoza

The Copa del Rey in 1990 came through a final against Joventut Badalona, which CAI Zaragoza won 76–69. A year later the same team reached the Korać Cup final and lost 72–76 to PAOK. Those two seasons belong to the original CB Zaragoza, and when that side left the top flight in 1996, the city was without elite basketball.

Basket Zaragoza was formed in 2002 to bring the Liga ACB back, and it took the sponsor's name at the start: CAI Zaragoza until 2016, then Tecnyconta, and since 2019 Casademont. The climb was uneven. The club won the LEB Oro, the second division, in 2008 and went up, went straight back down in 2009, and won the LEB Oro again in 2010. It has stayed in the ACB since, though in 2016–17, 2017–18 and 2021–22 it stayed up only narrowly.

The best results of this period came late. In 2019 Zaragoza reached the ACB semi-finals, still without a league title. In 2020–21 it finished third in the Basketball Champions League. Carlos Alocén belonged to that generation. He came through the club's own system and debuted in 2016 at 15, the youngest player in ACB history for Zaragoza. He was named the league's Best Young Player in 2019 and 2020, then moved to Real Madrid.

The Derbi Aragonés against Peñas Huesca is the fixture that matters most in the region. At the Pabellón Príncipe Felipe, which holds 10,744, the red home shirts have given the team the nickname Los Rojos. The women's side, which plays as Casademont Zaragoza, won the Copa de la Reina in 2023.
