Pogon Szczecin saw off Wisła Kraków 2:0 in the eighth round of the Ekstraklasa on Sunday. The hosts took all three points with goals from Darko Churlinov and Jordi Sánchez, moving clear of the bottom half while Kraków remain rooted to seventeenth.
And here's the thing about this one – it wasn't decided by possession or territory. Kraków had 59 per cent of the ball, sent 85 attacks into the box, and still went home empty-handed. The match turned on two moments, and by then the visitors had already thrown everything at the game.
Churlinov broke the deadlock in the fifty-ninth minute, tapping home after a period of sustained pressure. Pogon had created four big chances against Kraków's one, and suddenly the visitors were chasing shadows. Sánchez added a second in stoppage time, 90-plus-three on the clock, to end any lingering hope of a comeback.
We had called this one at the start of the week. A home win for Pogon felt inevitable given their form, and the result confirms it. To be fair, Kraków were not without merit – they completed 443 passes and registered twelve key passes – but finishing just twenty per cent of their shots on target tells the story.
The yellow cards told a different tale. Duje Dujmovic, Lucas Piazón, Kamil Pestka and Patryk Dziczek all went into the book, with Kraków picking up three to Pogon's one. The visitors grew increasingly desperate as the game wore on, and their aggression never translated into anything meaningful.
Pogon move to thirteen points, still seventh, while Kraków stay on four at the foot of the table. The hosts have now extended their unbeaten run to five, and if they keep this shape they will make life awkward for everyone above them.
