The one trophy that mattered arrived in 1991/92, when Deportivo Paraguayo won Primera D and earned promotion to Primera C. It stayed there eight seasons, its best return a third place in the 1992/93 Apertura and again in the 1994/95 Clausura, before finishing bottom in 1999/00 and dropping back down.
The club was formed in Buenos Aires by members of the city's Paraguayan community; it joined the Argentine Football Association in 1964. Headquarters remain in the Barracas district, though the club itself plays out in González Catán, in the La Matanza district of Buenos Aires province.
For more than sixty years, that meant renting other clubs' grounds. Estadio Deportivo Paraguayo, also known as Predio Deportivo Paraguayo or Estadio Juan Antonio Arias, opened on 17 March 2025 on Intendente Pedro Russo, and gave the club a home pitch of its own for the first time in its history.
AFA lifted the club's most recent expulsion from Primera C in December 2024, following a reform that merged the category with Primera D, and Deportivo Paraguayo returned to that division in 2025 — now, for the first time, defending home advantage on a ground it actually owns.
