Quillota fans voted him the best player in the club's history in a poll held in 2020.

San Luis grew out of a school. In December 1919, students and former pupils of the Instituto Quillota, guided by a French Marist brother named Louis Thiron, put together a side under the name Ex Alumnos del Instituto Quillota Football Club. Just over a year later, in January 1921, they renamed it San Luis in honour of Thiron's brother.

Home games are played at the Estadio Municipal Lucio Fariña Fernández, which holds 7,703. The yellow-and-black kit has given the team two nicknames that get used almost interchangeably, Canarios and El Tractor Amarillo, and its oldest rivalry runs against Unión La Calera, a fixture known locally as the Clásico del interior.

Further back, in 1928, three San Luis players — Óscar Alfaro, Carlos Hill and Iván Mayo — were called up together to represent the Valparaíso provincial side and became known locally as the Golden Triad.
