General Lamadrid

General Lamadrid plays out of Villa Devoto, a residential corner of Buenos Aires better known for its houses and parks than for football, and the club has spent most of its existence tucked into the city's lower divisions without much fuss made about it. The idea of putting a team together in the neighbourhood had been kicked around since 1939, and it took another eleven years for a group from Villa Devoto to actually make it happen, founding the club on 11 May 1950 under first president Marcelino Pinero. Formal recognition came later still — General Lamadrid didn't join the Argentine Football Association until 1956.

The club has stayed close to home ever since, home being Estadio Enrique Sexto, a small ground that holds somewhere around 3,000. The navy blue and white have travelled up and down the fourth and third tiers rather than the top flight. The 1977 Torneo Decagonal in Primera D brought the first promotion of note, and in 1995 a win over Victoriano Arenas in the Torneo Reducido sent Lamadrid back up to Primera C. The 2010–11 title in Primera C Metropolitana pushed the club a level higher again, into Primera B Metropolitana.

More recently, the shirt has had something to show for itself: in 2024 General Lamadrid won the Torneo Apertura in Primera C. There has been the odd taste of the national stage too — in the 2018 Copa Argentina, the club beat Banfield on penalties to reach the round of 32, a result that stood out against the usual rhythm of a team built for the lower divisions. A repeat trip to that stage in 2025 ended in defeat to Lanús.

What still hasn't come is a run in the top two divisions of Argentine football — for all the promotions won since 1950, General Lamadrid has yet to reach that far up the pyramid.
