Cádiz and Valladolid played out a 1-1 draw in the third round of the Segunda División on Sunday evening. Izeta opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the seventeenth minute before Luis Chacon equalised for the hosts forty-three minutes in. Both sides left with single points after a contest littered with disallowed goals.
Valladolid took an early lead when Izeta converted from the spot after the referee pointed to the spot. The visitors held their advantage until Chacon's strike in the second half pulled Cádiz level. And here's the thing — that was the only goal that stood from a game where VAR intervened on four separate occasions.
Chacon's forty-third-minute goal appeared to give Cádiz hope of a comeback, but the effort was subsequently ruled out for offside at sixty-one minutes and again at sixty-three. The hosts also saw a Carlos Clerc effort in the eighty-sixth minute cancelled after the same verdict. Valladolid were denied a potential winner in the same minute when another disallowed effort followed.
Both teams made changes in search of a winner. Cádiz introduced R. van Duiven and D. A. Zarate Hidalgo while Valladolid brought on K. de Rooij and M. Fernandez. To be fair, neither side managed to convert the late pressure into a decisive moment despite several attacking substitutions.
Cádiz enjoyed slightly more possession at fifty-one per cent but Valladolid created the better chances. The visitors registered six shots on target compared to two for the hosts, though their expected goals figure of 1.07 sat just below Cádiz's 1.14. Valladolid completed more crosses and registered more attacks overall, but the final tally remained level.
The result keeps both sides winless in the young season. Cádiz remain in sixteenth place with three points from three matches, while Valladolid sit nineteenth with just one point after two defeats and one draw. Neither side has yet tasted victory in the campaign.
