Carnarvon Town claimed a 2:1 away victory over Conna-с-Квей in the opening round of the Premier League regular season on Saturday. The result moves the visitors into third place while the hosts remain in fifth after seven games. Conna-с-Квей took an early lead through M. Stone at the 27th minute before the visitors turned the match around.
The home side controlled possession at 55 per cent and registered 139 attacks compared to 86 from their opponents. They also earned eight corners to Carnarvon's four, but could only register two shots on target. The statistics suggest they created plenty of opportunities without converting them at crucial moments.
Carnarvon's response came through S. Bradley, who converted a penalty at the 58th minute to level the score. The away side had been playing with discipline up until that point, but the spot-kick shifted momentum. By then the home visitors were already on a better run in terms of efficiency.
Z. Clarke then scored the decisive goal at the 71st minute, putting Carnarvon ahead for good. The home side made several changes in an attempt to equalise, bringing on H. Mehasseb, O. Evans, A. Hughes and D. Gosset in quick succession. Conna-с-Квей threw everything at it in the final stages but could not find a way through.
Carnarvon Town now sit on 18 points from eight matches with six wins and two defeats. Conna-с-Квей have 16 points after seven games, with five victories, one draw and one loss. The gap between the sides remains narrow, but the away result gives the visitors a psychological advantage heading into the coming fixtures.
