Turku PS beat IFK Mariehamn 3-0 in the Veikkausliiga's eighteenth round on Saturday. The hosts took all three points at home, extending their unbeaten run at the expense of the visitors who remain rooted near the bottom.
K. Visser opened the scoring in the twentieth minute, a moment that set the tone. S. Anini added a second shortly before the interval, and Visser confirmed the result with another goal in the fifty-fifth. By then Mariehamn had already lost their shape, and the match was effectively over.
There were substitutions throughout the second half as Turku PS managed their lead. Anini came off in the forty-sixth, replaced by J. Nissinen. Later came L. Ikonen, M. Konkkola, J. Heyden and T. Zaal, each change reflecting a game being controlled rather than chased.
The statistics tell a familiar story. Turku PS held 53 per cent possession and created three big chances, while Mariehamn managed just one. Shots were 14 to eight on target, though the accuracy figures—36 per cent against 6 per cent—reveal where the chances went begging for the away side.
What this means is straightforward. Turku PS move further from the relegation battle, sitting eighth with 31 points from 22 games. Mariehamn stay twelfth with 14 points, and the gap between them and safety has not narrowed. The result ended a poor run for the hosts, who had taken just one point from their last five before this.
