The club that produced them traces back to 26 March 1924, when International Foot-Ball Club and América Futebol Clube merged into Club Athletico Paranaense. In December 2018 the board restored the old "h" in Athletico, a spelling that had drifted out of use, mainly to stop being mistaken for Atlético Mineiro at the other end of the country.
Home games are played at the Ligga Arena, known for most of its life as the Arena da Baixada, which holds 42,372.
Nationally, the honours board is thinner but heavier: the Série A title in 2001, a Copa do Brasil in 2019, and two Copa Sudamericana wins, in 2018 and 2021. Two Copa Libertadores finals, in 2005 and 2022, ended without the trophy. Tite managed the club to a state title in 2005 before the international career that followed; Luiz Felipe Scolari has also sat on the bench.
Furacão remains the nickname, red and black remain the colours, and the club continues to build teams around academy talent it can sell on before facing Coritiba again.
