Libertad won the Paraguayan Primera División five years running, from 2021 through 2025, and did it with a flourish in the middle: in 2023 the club took both the Apertura and the Clausura, then added the Copa Paraguay and the Supercopa Paraguay in the same year. It repeated the double the year after. Twenty-six league titles now stand behind the club, stretching back to a first championship in 1910 and running through 1917, 1920, 1930, 1943, 1945 and 1955 before the long run of Apertura and Clausura wins that has defined the past two decades.

The club was formed in Asunción on 30 July 1905, one of the oldest in the country, though the nickname El Decano — the Dean — went to Olimpia, founded three years before it.

Blue and white are Libertad's colours, and the shirt has given the club more than one name over the years: Albinegro for the strip, Gumarelo as the one supporters actually use. There is also Repollero, a nickname that goes back to the cabbage patches that once covered the plot of land where the club eventually built its ground.

That ground is Estadio Tigo La Huerta, known around Asunción as La Huerta Liberteña, holding 15,000. The name carries the same echo as Repollero — la huerta means the vegetable garden — a reminder of what the site was before it became a football stadium and stayed one through everything Libertad has won on it since.
