Mashujaa

Kigoma United carries most of the weight here — though the club's more testing games in recent seasons have come against Mbeya City and Singida Black Stars.

That equal footing is recent. Mashujaa spent most of its existence in regional football and then in Ligi Daraja La Kwanza, Tanzania's second tier. The 2022/23 season changed that: a fourth-place finish put the club into the promotion play-offs, and it went up. Jumanne Chale, the coach who took them through that campaign, did not stay to enjoy it.

No major honours sit in the cabinet — no league title, no Tanzania Cup, no Super Cup. What the club has produced is a player: Baraka Shabani Mtuwi, a defender who came through at Mashujaa and was capped by the Tanzania national team, including in matches against Zanzibar.

Home games are played at the Lake Tanganyika Stadium, which holds 3,500. The kit has stayed consistent — white shirts, navy shorts, yellow socks. It is that western geography, not the capital's football, that shaped who Mashujaa learned to treat as rivals.
