In 2021 Railway reached the final of the 124th IFA Shield and lost 2-1 to Sreenidi Deccan in extra time. In 2024-25 Railway went down from the Premier Division to the First Division, and Eastern Railway went with them.

The similarity of those two names causes trouble. The honours that Kolkata associates with railway football — the league title of 1958, taken from Mohun Bagan by a single point, the IFA Shield of 1944 after a 2-0 win over East Bengal — belong to Eastern Railway. Railway's own cabinet is empty.

The nickname, The Railwaymen, is shared with every side the Indian Railways have backed, so it identifies the employer rather than the club.

Home matches are played at the Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay Stadium in Barrackpore, up the river from Kolkata and still known to most people as the Barrackpore Stadium. It holds 3,000. Calcutta League fixtures move between grounds often enough that a club can go a season without a settled address, but this is the one that keeps appearing next to Railway's name on the schedules.
