Only once has the Storm lifted the Clark Cup, and they did it without needing a seventh game: in 2016, under Bill Muckalt, they swept the Dubuque Fighting Saints three games to none, with Wade Allison taking playoff most valuable player honours. It was a first for the franchise, and it capped a season that had already brought the Western Conference title. Twelve years earlier the club had gone the other way, losing the 2003–04 final to the Waterloo Black Hawks after finishing that same season as regular-season champions of the West Division and, separately, the league as a whole through the Anderson Cup. That regular-season trophy has come back to Kearney twice more since, in 2019 and 2022, without another run to a title.

The team has sent a steady stream of players through to the National Hockey League. Matthew Knies won a Stanley Cup with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2024; Blake Coleman had already done the same with Dallas the year before, and Jaden Schwartz with Vegas. Casey Mittelstadt came through the same development pipeline. On the coaching side, Anthony Noreen holds the franchise record for games and years on the bench, seven seasons from 2017 to 2024, longer than Jim Hillman's spell as the club's first head coach or Bliss Littler's five years that followed him.

Games against the Lincoln Stars carry the weight in Nebraska. There is no official name attached to the fixture, but the standings rarely matter once the two sides meet. The Omaha Lancers fill the other end of that rivalry, and between the three clubs the United States Hockey League's Nebraska games have a heat that the regular schedule does not.
