Virgilio Tejeira has his name on the ground in Penonomé, and the club that plays there carries a name of its own only since 2021. Before that it was the Asociación Deportiva San Antonio Fútbol Club, founded on 25 May 1968, and the reorganisation that produced Unión Coclé Fútbol Club was more than a change of letterhead.

The ground is the thing worth pausing on. Estadio Virgilio Tejeira holds 900. Teams arriving from the capital swap a stadium for what the paperwork elsewhere calls the Complejo Futbolístico Virgilio Tejeira Andrión, and they play in front of a crowd that could fit into a school hall.

Penonomé sits in the province of Coclé, inland from the coast, and the club's two nicknames both point back at it. Los Leñadores — the Woodcutters — and Los Coclesanos. One names a trade, the other simply names where everyone is from. Nobody in the province needs the second explained.

The route up ran through the Liga Prom, Panama's promotional tier, and the club has kept a foot in that structure while establishing itself above it. There is no trophy cabinet to walk past on the way in; the honours list is empty, and the ambition is the ordinary one for a side of this size — hold a place in the top flight, and make the 900 seats count often enough.
