Caracas and Carabobo drew 1-1 in the fifth round of the Clausura phase of the Venezuelan Primera División on Thursday night. Robert Hernandez opened the scoring for the hosts before D. Machis levelled for the visitors, and neither side could find a winner in a match decided by three or four key moments rather than sustained pressure.
Hernandez struck in the twenty-fourth minute, a goal that seemed to settle Caracas after a nervy opening. Machis responded just eleven minutes later, and by then the tempo had shifted — substitutions came thick and fast. Machis himself was replaced in the forty-sixth minute, while Caracas brought on M. Covea and J. De Santis in the fifty-first, followed by E. Arzu in the sixtieth and C. Larotonda in the sixty-third.
Caracas threw more bodies into the game late on, bringing on J. Duran and E. Castillo in the sixty-seventh minute, then bringing Hernandez off for I. Gudino in the seventy-fifth. The visitors added little in the final third, though L. Reinoso and M. Vegas picked up yellow cards in stoppage time.
The statistics told a familiar story: many shots, few goals. Caracas registered six shots off target against two on target, while Carabobo managed twelve shots off target with three on target. Possession split 46-54 in the visitors' favour, but big chances created stood at zero for the hosts and two for the guests — a reminder that the game was decided in the opening half.
Caracas remain tenth with 22 points from 20 games, while Carabobo sit eighth on 27 points. The draw ended Caracas' recent run of mixed results, including a 3-2 win over Yaracuyanos on Sunday, and halted Carabobo's momentum after a 1-0 victory against Metropolitanos on Wednesday.
