Toluca women ran out 6-0 winners against Tijuana in the seventh round of the Liga MX regular season on September 15th. The result leaves the hosts fourteenth in the table with six points from seven games.
And here's the thing about this match — it started with an own goal. B. Del Real put the ball into her own net at the six-minute mark, giving Toluca an early cushion. E. Le Sommer doubled the advantage just four minutes later with a well-taken strike at ten minutes.
By then M. Pavi had already made her presence felt, finding the net at twenty-four minutes before adding a second at fifty-one. S. Jakobsson made it five at eighty-one and Le Sommer completed her brace at eighty-seven to finish with two goals.
Tijuana's evening was punctuated by three yellow cards — B. Cuevas at thirty-eight, L. Parra at forty-five plus five, and F. Monroy at sixty. Y. They had nine shots on target at fifty per cent accuracy, while Tijuana managed four on target with thirty-three per cent accuracy. Both sides had two blocked shots and similar throw-in counts at twenty-six.
The result keeps Toluca in fourth place with sixteen points from five wins, one draw and one defeat. We had tipped a Toluca victory at fifty-seven per cent confidence, but the margin was unexpected — Tijuana simply could not contain the movement in midfield, and the early own goal changed the complexion of the game.
