In December 2020, Pumas UNAM Women reached a Liga MX Femenil final. The first leg against León finished 1-1; the return leg went 0-2, handing León the title on a 3-1 aggregate.

The team was formed as the women's branch of Club Universidad Nacional, the men's side owned by Mexico's National Autonomous University (UNAM), and wears the same badge. Home matches are played at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, a stadium in Mexico City.

Outside that 2020 run, Pumas have struggled to get past the early rounds of the postseason. According to Record, the club has been eliminated in the quarterfinals in eight of the league's fourteen completed seasons and failed to reach the playoffs at all in six others. A semi-final appearance has yet to happen.

The men's side has won seven Mexican championships; none of those apply to the women's squad.
