Santos Laguna Women

José Riestra did not have a squad when he stood up at the Orlegi TSM auditorium in February 2017 and told the room that Santos Laguna would field a women's side. What he had was a deadline. The Guerreras were formally constituted on 2 February that year, one of the founding members of Liga MX Femenil.

They play at the Estadio Corona in Torreón, in the state of Coahuila. That is a large room for a league still finding its audience.

The kit follows the men's club without deviation: white shirt and shorts at home, green socks; a bright green shirt with black shorts on the road. The Albiverdes and Laguneras both stuck as alternative names, though it is Guerreras that the stands use.

The closest the side has come to something lasting was the Apertura 2021, when they reached the quarter-finals and went out against Atlas on a 2-2 aggregate. There is no championship in the cabinet. In a competition that began the same year the club did, that leaves Santos Laguna among the founders who have watched other founders lift it.

Riestra remains the name attached to the beginning — the executive who announced the team into existence before anyone had signed for it, and who set the terms it has worked under since.
