Spartak Trnava secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Komarno in the second round of the Superliga at home on Saturday evening. The visitors took an early lead through F. Trello before Komarno fought back to level before half-time. Spartak Trnava then took control with a late own goal and a second from C. Bayemi to secure all three points.
Trello opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, giving Spartak Trnava a deserved advantage. Komarno responded well and were rewarded when S. Smehyl headed in an own goal in the 78th minute to bring them level. Bayemi then sealed the result with a goal in the 86th minute, leaving Komarno to chase the game with little time remaining.
There were several changes across the match, with both managers looking to influence the outcome. T. Kudlicka and Matheus Leoni were both substituted in the 46th minute, while Spartak Trnava brought on M. Mikovic in the 67th minute. Komarno made two changes in the 68th minute, bringing on L. Khorkheli and A. Masaryk, before substituting S. Smehyl shortly after.
Competition was tight throughout, with five yellow cards issued. M. Mikovic, R. Begala, A. Masaryk, K. Kostrna and D. Spiriak all received cautions, with Komarno picking up two and Spartak Trnava three. The match remained competitive until the final whistle, with neither side able to completely dominate proceedings.
Statistics showed Komarno controlled possession at 55 per cent but Spartak Trnava were more clinical. The visitors created four big chances compared to Komarno's single opportunity, and while both sides registered seven shots on target, Spartak Trnava's efficiency proved decisive.
The result moves Spartak Trnava further clear in third place with 14 points from seven games, having won four and lost just once. Komarno remain rooted to 10th position with four points from seven matches, having failed to secure a victory so far this season.
