Raków Częstochowa broke their winless run against Motor Lublin, winning 2:1 in the Ekstraklasa's eighth round. Three goals decided it, and by then the visitors had already seen their forecast come undone. We had backed the away side at 38 per cent confidence, but the match refused to follow that script.
Kamil Lukoszek opened the scoring in the 34th minute, putting the hosts ahead before half-time. Patryk Makuch doubled the lead just before the break, 42 minutes in.
Makuch found his second in the 77th minute, finishing what he had started. Marko Bulat came on for Raków in the 76th, while Fabio Ronaldo Costa Conceicao joined the visitors at 62nd. The game settled into a rhythm after that, with neither side creating much. Lukoszek was withdrawn at 87th, replaced by Filip Luberecki, but by then the pattern was set.
Raków dominated possession at 54 per cent and registered more attacks, but the numbers tell only part of the story. Motor created five big chances against two for the hosts, yet failed to convert. Shots accuracy was higher for Raków at 47 per cent compared to 36 per cent for the visitors.
The result means Raków finally have something to build on after six defeats. Motor remain in the lower half but now face a tougher task. The goal difference sits at minus nine for the hosts and minus eight for the visitors.
It was not a spectacle, but it was enough. One mistake ends it, and this time it was not the home side making them.
