First Vienna beat Rapid Wien II 2-0 in the Second League regular season on Thursday at the Allianz Stadium. The visitors took control early and held on for a clean sheet win that keeps them third in the table.
To be fair, the match opened with a burst of activity for the away side. B. Rosenberger struck twice in the space of a minute, finding the net in the thirtieth and thirty-first minutes. That double set the tone for the evening, and by then the hosts had already paid for a sloppy opening.
The second half brought a series of substitutions rather than drama. Rapid Wien II brought on M. Fillafer at the break, while First Vienna doubled their changes at fifty-five with Y. Soukouna and T. Anselm entering the fray. The visitors added D. Polke and E. Tutunci at sixty-four, and later brought on D. Djezic at seventy-six.
Discipline was not on First Vienna's side. F. Prohart and B. Luxbacher picked up yellow cards in the eighty-first and eighty-third minutes, and S. Ozvold followed at ninety. Rapid Wien II had only one booking, through M. Gantschnig at fifty-seven.
The statistics tell an uneven story. Rapid Wien II enjoyed 56 per cent possession and 83 attacks, yet registered zero shots on target. First Vienna were more efficient, landing six shots on target from 75 attacks with 43 per cent accuracy. The hosts made four goalkeeper saves against zero for the visitors.
First Vienna move closer to the top half with this result. They sit third with ten points from five games, three wins, one draw and one defeat. Rapid Wien II remain twelfth with six points after two victories and three losses, and the draw brought them together early in the standings.
