Deportes Puerto-Montt secured a 1-0 victory over Reconquista in the Primera B regular season on Sunday evening. The visitors took all three points despite playing against a side that dominated possession and territory throughout the contest. It was a result built on efficiency rather than volume of chances created.
R. Paredes proved to be the decisive figure, netting the only goal of the match in the 13th minute. The home side had plenty of opportunity to respond, registering 179 attacks compared to 126 for the away team. Yet they could muster only two shots on target, while Deportes Puerto-Montt were more clinical with three attempts on goal.
The statistics tell a familiar story of mismatched numbers. Reconquista controlled 57 per cent of possession and won ten corners to two. They also committed more throw-ins, 31 versus 19, and generated far more free kicks for themselves, eight to the visitors' fourteen. But the scoreline suggests their dominance never translated into genuine threat.
Both managers made several changes as the match progressed. M. Arguinarena came on for the hosts in the 46th minute, while Deportes Puerto-Montt brought on S. Negrete after the interval. Further substitutions followed from both benches, with G. Collao, C. Rodriguez and F. Baez among those introduced.
Discipline was reasonably maintained throughout, with five yellow cards issued in total. J. Vargas, G. Castillo and K. Gonzalez were cautioned for the home side, while G. Estigarribia and F. Alarcon joined the list for the visitors. No red cards altered the shape of either team.
The result leaves Reconquista fifth on 37 points from 24 games, with ten wins and seven draws. Deportes Puerto-Montt remain eighth on 34 points, their record of ten victories now balanced by ten defeats. Both sides had mixed form coming into this fixture, with the hosts drawing three of their last five matches and the visitors winning two of their previous five outings.
