Throttur Reykjavik cruise past Eygir in 7-2 victory
Throttur Reykjavik hammered Eygir 7-2 in their 1. The hosts scored four in the opening half, with B. Oddgeirsson and A. Ingason both finding the net twice, while Ingason added a third in the 70th minute to complete his brace.
Eygir pulled one back through S. Dabetic in the 23rd minute before M. Thordarson struck in stoppage time for the visitors, but Throttur had already established control. J. Kristjansson netted the fifth goal just after the hour mark, and Thordarson added a second for the hosts in the 76th minute to settle any lingering nerves.
The statistics told the story of dominance. Throttur enjoyed 61 per cent possession and registered 14 shots on target compared to Eygir's two. The visitors managed only one corner all evening while the hosts worked 19, and the attack count of 133 to 97 showed who ran the show.
Eygir's recent form makes little surprise of the result. They have lost their last five league games, including a 7-0 defeat to Afturelding on Friday, and sit 12th with just eight points from 21 matches. Their defensive frailties were on display once again.
Throttur's own run has been uneven, but they remain third with 40 points. A 3-1 win over Fylkir last week followed a heavy 3-0 loss to HK Kopavogur, and this result keeps them firmly in the hunt. They needed the points badly after their recent stumble.
Both sides showed discipline aside from the occasional caution. Four yellow cards were issued in total, with E. Blondal, B. Vidarsson, B. Gateau and M. Thordarson all booked as the match progressed.
